Can You Soothe Tense Muscles Using Essential Oils?
Muscle cramps can be very painful. Common causes for muscle cramps in your legs or even toes can be dehydration, too much exercise, lack of nutrients such as calcium, potassium and magnesium, or irritation of a nerve through injury or stress. Leg cramps can also happen without any specific cause especially during the night or at rest. Muscle pains can also be of symptom when going through a detox regimen as the body is getting rid of stored toxins and metabolic waste. Bacteria and yeast that have been feeding on substances such as sugars, start dying off when we deprive them of their preferred food. This die-off releases toxic substances into the blood stream. Muscle pains, body aches, headaches, nausea are just a few of the related symptoms of detoxification.
Essential Oils Commonly used to Soothe Tense Muscles:
Cypress, Marjoram, Massage Blend, Soothing Blend, Lime
When I experience my leg leg tightening up or my toes I apply 2-4 drops topically to the affected area and lightly massage the oil in to relax the muscle tissue. Personally, I’ve had great experience with Marjoram and the Soothing Blend. A friend of mine uses Marjoram on his legs before he goes on long bike rides. His legs don’t feel sore the next day. Another friend of mine runs track, especially hurdles, and she applies the Soothing Blend to her legs before practice and track meets. She loves the oils as she doesn’t get sore like she used to.
